Mrs Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch is a compelling view of life among the poor in America at the turn of the 20th century. More than a century later it's stories of courage, sacrifice, family values, and indomitable spirit still ring true. People helping people. Humorous and touching at the same time. Not appropriate for young children even though a "children's classic ". Readers need to take into context the time in American history the book was written and the social mores in regards to ethnic and racial groups at that time. It can be a useful educational tool for middle school and older students, or simply a good read for adults. This book reflects positive family values in turn of the century America. Highly recommended!
