I owned this book since it was printed & needed to replace it. (Never loan books you like.) I loved the detailed examples of various common features in Pacific Northwest Native American art, from totems to boxes to paintings. The strong features and colors are explained and it makes an informed viewer of the reader. As an artist I appreciated all the examples from photos of historic work to full pages of different ways to portray features. It is always fun to know what many don't know. Be in the "know" with this book.

This book is a great reference for my grandson who is 1/4 Haida; Raven Clan and Double Fin Killer Whale Crest. He is a talented artist and is researching his heritage and art to create a family tattoo and other relevant artwork. He is enjoying this book.

Lots of cool pictures of the art work. Text is simple to read. Had to read it for one of my school classes but I actually enjoyed the book. Was not to textbooky. If you want a good book that shows the art work of the Northwest Coast then this book will do you justice. The pictures along with the explanations are very helpful. If you don't want to read it then just buy it for the pictures.
Great for any artist wanting to know Northwest art. Very well written. Explanation of spirit and parts of the animals are pure. I am a student of the Northwest Indian art and found this book very knowledgeable that completes all my needs.
Very illustrative. This book give a good brief description, of both the art form and a little bit of the symbolism. I wanted a book with a lot of photo of the Northwest Coast art style; and got it with this purchase!
