I bought this autobiography because I wanted to learn everything I could about this fascinating American hero, Joe Foss, and I could find no biography of him. This was surprising since he was the leading Marine ace of WWII and was awarded the Medal of Honor, served two terms as governor of South Dakota, became a general in the South Dakota Air National Guard, was President of the National Rifle Association, and was the first commissioner of the American Football League, among many other honors and positions. This book is well-written and an easy read and follows Foss's life up to the early 1990's. Unfortunately, it relies almost entirely on his memory of events and lacks documentation, but it is the best we have until someone writes a definitive biography of this true American hero and genuine, down-to-earth character.Read full review
