I have used German tubes, like Teles for a long time. I love their detail and transparency. On my phono pre-amp I decided to try the Briar or Mullard tubes. These Brimar tubes are excellent and very much a complement to my phono preamp adding even more liquidity without sacrificing clarity.

These are really great tubes. The bias is slightly different than a 12ax7. They have a bit more gain. One needs to refer to the characteristic curves to get the proper load line for best performance. The heaters are based differently than a 12ax7. They are slightly different, but every bit as good as a NOS 12ax7.

In general its an ok tube but so is a new production JJ. Tonally its a little bright yet lacking insight and detail. Bottom end is reticent with an elevated mid bass. Forget separation, colour and texture. This tube is bland bland bland.

Bought two of theese for my tube amp, the sockets are great quality and unlike those plastic ones, they don't melt. Pretty stiff to plug the tube in, but it makes a great connection. 10/10 would buy again.
