Johnny Carson will always be the man all late night host will be compared to.A man for his time, he and Ed McMahon set the bar for all who followed. Johnny dominated late night TV for three decades.Johnny would do about anything for a laugh, he was also a master of the interview and had a nack for helping people loosen up and have a lively conversation with Johnny.Just about everyone in show biz and politics along with the occasional strange ones (think Tiny Tim & Miss Vicki) stepped across his stage.I was a regular watcher of Carson even though it made being on time to work tough, you had to see it because you knew the conversation at break time was going to start with did you see, hear what so and so said, did on Carson last night? Johnny every weeknight as long as you could stay awake. Those days are gone and most of those who graced his stage are nearly all gone, but as long as these precious tapes are around we can live those fabulous nights with Johnny over and over to our hearts content. If you are too young to have witnessed this great talent while he was plying his trade on TV, do yourself a favor and latch on to some of these tapes and get a load of a talent seldom seen today.Read full review
I bought these tapes because life doesn't have enough laughter and we all need more. They didn't disappoint. Three tapes include bits from the Tonight Show over 30 years, and the fourth is the final show. The patchwork of the first three tapes include early performances by many big names -- Eddie Murphy, Roseanne, David Letterman, George Carlin... Classic interviews abound, including Diane Cannon (who married Cary Grant) collapsing in laughter when Johnny mentions she also dated him. The familiar Carnac and other bits are included, and the scenes where Carson visits with animals are hilarious. Laughter is good for the body and the soul, and these tapes provide it.

it was nice to take a ride back in time, so many of his guest are long gone, as he is, i remembered about 75% of the shows, and it was fun to see them then, and knowing them now. bette midler was great as his final guest, a real tear jerker
