I highly recommend this book for the historian and inquirer about Berkeley's beginnings. It addresses the society and artistic movements of the period, ending at about the second World War, with commentary on the city after the war. It's a comprehensive book, illustrating the web of people lives and is well annotated. It of course creates many questions for future detective work. . Berkeley Bohemia reads easily and is developed around individuals, the people and their efforts, their ideals, and their failures as well as successes. The included images are instructive and fit the book perfectly. It's been a pleasure to read and to contemplate unresolved thoughts.
