This film is filled with all of the wonderful characters, great plot lines, and all of the fantastic manipulation of the audience's emotions that are characteristic of Capra's films. The protagonists are typically goofy, the villains are wonderfully rotten to the core, and there is a great character arc, especially for Jean Arthur's character. If you're only familiar with "It's a Wonderful Life," then this film will be an excellent second step in your complete Frank Capra experience! You'll enjoy every minute of it!

Mr. Deeds Goes to Town (1936) is a highly enjoyable piece of Capracorn starring two great actors, Jean Arthur and Gary Cooper. Cooper plays Mr. Deeds, a small-town, tuba-playing eccentric who inherits $20 million from an uncle he barely knew. He must go to New York City to take charge of his inheritance, and everybody is eager to get some of his money. Jean Arthur plays the ace newspaperwoman who passes herself off as a damsel in distress to get close to Deeds and write articles about his Cinderella Man life. Cooper and Arthur each give an outstanding performance, and Frank Capra makes the film as entertaining as any he directed. I highly recommend Mr. Deeds Goes to Town to all fans of classic movies. The quality of this DVD version is acceptable.
This movie has more humor, pathos, and warmth than nearly ANY OTHER I have ever seen!!!!!!!!!! I had heard the "condensed" version on the radio a while ago, but the visual experience was far superior.
