Great actors but what a stupid story line. Rock was the Rock. Luis Guzman, a great long time character actor's script was horrible as was his stupidity due to a bad writer. Never had a bad word to say about Michael Caine whose role could of been played by anyone. The 3D effects were well done, but whoever wrote this story is has no sense of what a good adventure is all about.. To be the best two parts of the film were the dinosaur egg and chase scene and the Big Bumble Bees they flew on in the film. What a waste of great talent For the kids. Luis suffered in his character as a not too bright airplane pilot who kept chickens in his plane and was kind of a chicken who thought he lost his legs when he crashed the plane in the Bermuda Triangle. His legs were buried by sand with only his feet sticking out of the sand at one end and his torso on the other. Also his stupid digging up a giant gold nugget that is the size of A U-hall truck was very ridiculous. Lacking of course was Brendan Fraser who probably had better films to make. Why the Rock? Of course Vanessa Hudgens is great to wat. But she too could of done better as well. Bottom Line: For Adolescents ages 9-14. Kids Adventure with good 3D and not so great story line. Hopefully this film might inspire young kids, male and female into to read the works of Jules Verne who was indeed a great literary visionary who wrote of things yet to come over 150- years ago. Beginning in 1864 with ‘Journey to the Center of the Earth’, then ‘20,000 Leagues Under the Sea’ (1870, and what is considered to be his most famous book, ‘Around the World in 80 Days’ (A great book and great film written in 1873); and finally ‘Mysterious Island’ in 1874. Of course he had other great novels as well. Considered at times to be the ‘Father of Science Fiction’ along with H. G. Welles and Hugo Gernsback, his anthologies of early Sci—Fi were titled ‘Voyages extraordinaires’Read full review

There are some just plain dumb roll-your-eyes antics, the near arrogant, confident girl/shy, clueless, infatuated boy plays out too much, the "riding the bees" is SO far fetched as to be ridiculous... but the rest of the movie is just good old Disneyesque family fun! The story was fine, the sets were excellent, the actors are likeable, the CG action gets high marks and there's enough stuff here to keep kids riveted and adults reasonably entertained. I'd compare it to "In Search of the Castaways". Haven't seen the 3D blu ray, only the movie, but I very much like that added effect and will no doubt add it to my collection eventually.
I enjoy watching wholesome movies with action and adventure and 3D is definitely the way to go. There were several spots that startled me with something coming right off of the screen at me. Now I am wanting to have some friends over and sit behind them and to give them the full effect, I will fling some water droplets at them and possibly at just the right time toss some things over their heads in their laps. Great fun.
