I am a huge fan of Clarence White from his days in the Byrds. When hearing something I like, there is this urge to dig deeper in an effort to discover their inspiration. The Kentucky Colonels not only played great music but provided inspiration to others. This live recording from the Newport Folk Festival gives me the chance to hear musical history. Of course having Doc Watson share licks with Clarence is an added bonus. These recordings include some of the banter among the musicians both during and between songs which provides a feeling that I'm there in the audience listening. Although the sound quality of the recordings could be better it may be that cleaning it up may have also eliminated some of the "live" feel. For the casual listener I would stick with their studio recordings but if you like old time music played extremely well, this is a must have.Read full review
