Was there life before TV and Wii? You bet! This book, My Little House Crafts Book, shows that pioneer children not only had entertainment, but learned skills and made useful and attractive things for daily living. What I really like about this book is that most of the crafts, although simple, do require time and some adult supervision. Interaction between the generations is fulfilling, and a child who knows he's made a viable contribution to the family feels part of something greater than himself. Learning how to fill the hours doing something constructive is one of the greatest gifts a parent can give a child. The projects run the gamut from Corncob Dolls, to Broom making, Garden planning, Mobiles, Quilting, Hay Sticks for burning, Beading, Baking, etc. The book teaches eighteen different crafts. There are many colorful illustrations which show very well the process of each project. Text is interspersed with the pictures, explaining how the projects make use of things that we, in the 21st Century, would think nothing of throwing away. My Little House Crafts Book would complement any craft lover's library, and would make an excellent, and inexpensive, gift for a fan of Laura Ingalls Wilder. I would suggest this book for children aged 8 and above, however, younger children with good small motor skills might find the projects enjoyable. While the book is aimed at children, adults will find it interesting and informative.Read full review
