This is a merit badge pamhplet (MBP) from the Boy Scouts of America. Merit badges are subject-related areas that Boy Scouts can learn about & the pass requirements off to earn a patch. There have been several different types (particularly the covers) of MBPs over the years. The 1974 version, like the rest of the 1970s series, has a photo cover topped by a yellowish-green stripe. Wilderness Survival is an elective, that most boys earn at summer camp. The book addresses topics such as outdoor illness, various environmental conditions, survival kit items, fire starting without matches, what to do when lost, natural shelter, & water purification. This is a brief pamhplet on the topic. Much more comprehensive works of survival, including wilderness survival, exist elsewhere. This merit badge was created in 1973, so this is the 1st edition of the manual. Later editions exist. A 1996 printing of the 1994 copyright has an ISBN #0-8395-3265-2 & BSA catalog #33265.Read full review
Gives me things that were missing from my handbook when they revised scouting in 1972. The information is flawless and interesting, good source material for deeper research. Great resource for any young teenager getting a foot into the door. This should be an almost required merit badge, for it teaches scoutcrafts that I wish I knew back in my day.
