Rio Bravo for me was: One of the best westerns as far as total entertainment: John Wayne is always John Wayne with a nice touch of Romance coming from the Duke and Angie Dickinson, Dean Martin & Ricky Nelson added those great Voices and also acted out their roles well, Walter Brennan added some levity at just the right times as usual ! There is the right amount of " Shootum Up " to keep things moving ! For me it was a feel good movie like I remember from the 50s. Enjoy, I did. Woody

This review request asked if the movie was entertaining and if the characters in the movie were engaging. Well, I certainly would not have bought it had the movie been unentertaining and the characters anything other than engaging. What odd questions for a DVD purchase review. In any case, the DVD played through without stutters or other failure---this always is the main issue with any DVD I purchase---and thus was worth the price. It was the very same _Rio Bravo_ I have seen many times and was bought to replace a DVD that had degraded and would not play through properly.

Nobody does a Western better than John Wayne. Rio Bravo has a wonderful cast and an interesting plot line. To me, Walter Brennan stole the movie. He's TERRIFIC! Dean Martin does a little singing and Ricky Nelson made me remember why I had a huge crush on him when I was a teenager. I didn't even recognize Angie Dickinson at first. She's so young here, but she does a great job in her role. All in all, this was a great way to spend an afternoon.
Often cited as Howard Hawks' best, "Rio Bravo" is a superb western that embraces the archetypical characteristics of its genre without becoming cliche. Everything about the film just seemed to work. The casting was superb, with John Wayne at his best (who knew Dean Martin and Ricky Nelson could hold their own with the icon), the story was brilliant, and the directing could not have been perfected any better. Often cited as a response to "High Noon," "Rio Bravo" holds its own as a great American classic. A true depiction of superb filmmaking craftsmanship. Highly recommend it!!!
You really recollect what movies used to be----character development, solid acting all around , and continuous action. The discs have great resolution and the sound is good also.
