This is the most honest and rewarding book about stepmothers that I have ever read. I am a stepmother and a family therapist and have felt like I was in a constant struggle between how I envisioned my family would function versus how they functioned in reality. The author uses valid research data and interweaves it with interviews from stepmothers, stepchildren, fathers, and other family members. This book validates the roller-coaster of emotions experienced by stepmothers. I feel a tremendous sense of freedom from past feelings of failure as a result of reading the book. It is a "must-read" for all adults in stepfamilies. I also recommend this book for therapists to suggest to their clients.
It was horrible. It offered nothing. I don't even know how it got published. After reading it I purposefully left it on an airplane because it wasn't worth carrying.

Very good book for stepmoms going through difficult times with step children and husband that dont understand where you are ocming from...i got this book because i felt so awful as a step mom and felt i was making wrong decisions and it was hard for me to express to my husband what i was going through... this book helped me explain to him why i felt the way i do when it comes to being a step mom.
Loved it!
