This full featured animation is much more than it appears. It entices the child in us to remain alive and yet at the same time it incorporates themes of lasting friendship, the detriments of temptation and most importantly that we should look to the fundamentals in life and take time to enjoy them. Contrary to what some may believe this is not a mere "cartoon" akin to cats smashing mice with mallets. Rather than focusing on the excellent animation in the movie by itself, if you watch the movie (and yes, it is an animated "movie") with a focus on the words, themes and especially the lyrics to the songs, you will gain a new appreciation to this great work of art. My particular favorite is when the animated character "Baloo" sings the song "Bare Necessities". Only too often we rush through life rather than taking the time to stop and smell the roses or appreciate the fundamental parts of life such as the ability to taste a wonderful meal, enjoy the sun on our face or just appreciate the bare necessities of life. This is a great animated example of fundamentals of life that can ease children into life's lessons and also providing adults with a reminder of the significance of life. I give this a five start rating!Read full review
I was so happy to finally find Disney's Jungle Book on DVD. We switched over to DVD's from VCR's a while back and I have been looking for this DVD ever since. As you probably know Disney only offers their best for a short period of time and then it doesn't happen again for around 10 years before they are offered again. Their are some movies you just don't ever outgrow. And I feel the Jungle Book is among that list. We have a rather large selection of DVD's and there is never a time that someone can't find something they want to watch. A good friend was in the hospital for cancer and we gathered up a collection of our DVD's and took them for him to watch on his portable DVD player. We had a selection ranging from good old Disney Classics to action movies and to comidy. DVD also work so well when traveling in the van. We have a T.V. and DVD player. Back in the VCR day's their was sooooo many cases going and falling all over the back of the van...not to mention rewinding. Now we just go through and take a ton of DVD's and they all fit into a CD case and their is no rewinding. :)Read full review
This review is for The Jungle Book (dvd 1999 limited issue) Disney Animated. There have been many releases of this movie, but after doing some research, I decided to buy this particular release. A review I had read prior to the purchase said that this version had the best picture ratio. That person had shown screen shots comparing 2 different releases that clearly proved his point. Even though this is an older dvd, and I bought it as used but in very good condition, the picture quality was excellent and per the case the aspect ratio is exactly the same as the original theatrical release (no part of the picture cut off or trimmed down as with at least some of the other releases).Great movie, great music, highly recommend.

Regardless of the "surreal" aspect of the movie. Ya Know, Playing in the jungle, snakes, ect. Most children can tell the diffrence between CARTOON and real life. This movie is a timeless classic. Straight from The bare Nessecaties to the fiery end. My children love it. Every child I know loves it. And it does teach a lesson on not to play with snakes, tigers and other wildlife. The point is. If you think this movie is OUT OF LINE then you might as well muzzle and blindfold your child. Tell them to NEVER use their imagination again.......These are the lessons life teaches us. Make friends, Care for one another, beat the odds and triump in the end. To me, that sums it all up.
The Jungle Book is a fantastic family movie. Kids love it and there is more than enough grown up humor to keep the parents interested. The music is very enjoyable, specially Bare Necessities and Like You. The interview with creators is quite fascinating. This was my first introduction to Frank and Ollie, the animators extrodinaire of the Disney studios. This was the last movie that was started by Walt and it's obvious the team wanted it to be a tribute to him. This DVD will remain in my collection long after the kids have gone off to college. It's a fun movie with entertaining bonus material.
