The Three Stooges Collection 1934-1936 contains all the laughs from Larry, Moe and Curly's first 3 years as an independent act...and boy, were they FUNNY years! Included in these top-notch DVDs are the hilarious "Punch Drunks", "Ants in the Pantry", "Hoi Polloi", "Restless Knights", "Pardon My Scotch", plus 14 others-all guaranteed to tickle your funny bone. The Stooges' first years with Columbia Studios were full of original, imaginitive, and side-splittingly funny shorts written and/or screenplayed by some great writers, including Searle Kramer, Elwood Ullman, Felix Adler, Clyde Bruckman, Andrew Bennison, Al Giebler, and others, with Felix Adler being the most prolific. Anyone watching one of these 20-minute laugh riots will be too busy chortling to criticize the primitive camera tricks and sound effects-they make these zany episodes even funnier anyway, if possible. These Sony DVDs are a tribute to modern digital technology-the shorts have been completely remastered, omitting all the hissing, scratchy and snowy film and soundtrack faults that are so prevalent in other DVDs and, especially, VHS tapes. For dyed-in-the-wool Stooge fans like me, they are a godsend. Buy a copy of this collection, you WILL love it! 5*****Read full review
All I can say is "WOW!" Sony has finally gone above and beyond the themed collections of shorts and has begun to release the Stooge shorts in chronological running order. The shorts are remastered in Hi-Definition from the master films. The sound has also been remastered. You will notice from the very first frame of Woman Haters that this is something you have never seen or heard before! Gone are the scratch lines and pock marks of old. Gone is the hiss, pop and fade in the soundtracks. What you get are films that look like they were shot this year! I am noticing details that I've missed for years, like the actual patterns of cloth, being able to read the labels of liquor bottles on the bar in the background and tight outlines of forms often missing from the third, forth and even fifth generation VHS copies that we have been used to seeing run on television stations for years. Walk, no run, no drive really fast to your nearest retailer, or better yet, find someone selling this set on eBay and get it into your home and experience the Stooges as they have not been experienced in 50 years or more in some cases, and make sure you introduce some younger folks to them too! For duty and humanity!Read full review
I recently bought this two disk set of the first 3 years of the 3 stooges. A few years ago I bought a disk that was very low quality and wasn't very impressed. However this product was very well made and includes the first three years with my favorite middle stooge, Curly. I am looking forward to another disk coming out in the near future (I hope) that would include the next three years which I would certainly purchase in a heartbeat. I have only watched the first disk so far and my favorites are "Punch Drunks" and "Hoi Poloi". These older short comedies are not only hilarious but provide a bit of very interesting history of how things were back in those days. There were probably 2 of the 11 skits on the first disk that I weren't all that great. However, the packaging and general layout of these first three years makes this collection one not to miss. I would say even if you are not a big stooge fan then this would make an excellent choice to add to your collection. I can't wait to start watching the second disk.Read full review
By far, the three stooges are the greatest comedy masters of all time. These were short films that were done in the mid-1900s, and featured three grown men trying to beat the odds stacked against them. In their short films, the stooges played a number of professions, such as plumbers, electricians, wrestlers, firemen, and many more. Naturally, as the title would imply, just about everything that could go wrong, went wrong- Murphy's law in action. I highly recommend the three stooges to anyone wanting a good laugh. Oh, and their is no foul language, so you can feel free to let your kids watch with you. The DVD set is great, because this show isn't normally shown on TV; though in the past, it has been a part of AMC's NYUK (New Yuk University of Knuckleheads), and on Spike TV, it was called the Stooges Slap-Happy Hour. This is a great series, and i strongly recommend it to people of all ages.Read full review
Great Job..It's about time someone started using their brain and began releasing The Three Stooges collection in chronological order. It makes sense. We can only hope they continue to think logically. Think of it...every other collection in music, dance, film has been released in it's original running order. Many series and shows also contain bonus footage and bloopers ect...I just want every short and film to be released...We will pay for our Nyucks!!!
