I thought that the film was brilliant. I have been a fan of Daniel Johnston's for a little while now. I have always though his music was intimate and telling of his life. I just didn't know how much until watching this film. He has led a "crazy" life. I have found myself listening to more and more of his stuff since. I have even gone as far as buying some shirts and posters. He is a great songwriter who deserves all the praise he is getting.
While Daniel Johnston is clearly a savant songwriter and perhaps a great poet, he clearly draws energy from a strange place. I now see this after viewing the documentary. I love his work now more than I did but losing the mystery of his genius has somehow led me to lose the romantic notions that led me to seek out his music. This film helped me lose my interest in Daniel Johnston. Perhaps a poetic reminder of his torn life and his current position in the world.
This movie is quite interesting in that it reflects the life of an artist by the name of Daniel Johnston who fought personal problems of great depression. You get to see first hand the struggles and terror along with the great music that came out of Daniel Johnston. The brain is very powerful.
