Most "Tolkien Scholars" will scoff Peter Jackson's latest undertaking in Middle Earth (a.k.a. New Zealand) which contains a few considerable omissions and liberties with J.R.R.'s cherished manuscript, however I felt this was a delightful film with more than enough excitement, action, breath-taking scenery and eye-popping special effects to satisfy lovers of the sword-and-sorcery genre. The casting is flawless and many of the book's most cherished scenes (such the unexpected party in Bag-End, Roast Mutton and Riddles in the Dark) did not disappoint. I highly recommend this film to fans of Peter Jackson's LOTR trilogy as well as Tolkien fans who are open to a little artistic license.

Wish they would do all Hobbitt movies in 3D and in a set! This has awesome effects and we enjoyed it very much!

The first movie of the trilogy is the bases for the other 2 movies, it establishes the story and characters. The story and the excellent marking for 3D make this a must own. I put 5 stars but, its really a 4.5 in my opinion, like I said the 3D puts it in another realm. The depth and immersion are excellent, for any 3D fan, I recommend picking up a copy. Hope this review helps.
