I needed to add a new shutoff ball valve to use with a wi-fi valve controller. While I have soldered numerous valves and pipe fittings this install was in a vertical run where it would be hard to drain the water from the lower pipe after the cut. With water in the pipe soldering would be difficult to impossible so this SharkBite valve seemed like the right solution. Since the diameter of the slip end would work well with the wi-fi controller mounting bracket the decision was obvious. Installation was less than 15 minutes, most of which was figuring out how much pipe to remove. If this information is available I wasn't able to find it. I took some measurements and decided that 2-5/8" would work, which it did. Marked the pipe for the cuts and an additional full depth mark on the non-slip side, made two cuts, cleaned the pipe ends and slid the valve over the slip end. Used the included release clip and slid the valve up to the 1-1/8" pre-marked full depth line and done. WARNING - before you use this valve (or any slip valve) me sure that after you make the cuts in the pipe that you will be able to move the ends out of alignment by at least 1" so that you can slide the slip end on the pipe. If you can't do this because of other fittings or mountings then this will not work without cutting out a larger section and using more fittings. The photo shows the valve installed with the wi-fi controller on it. The controller is not part of the product. This is my second install using SharkBite fittings and both have gone quickly, smoothly, and without any leaks.Read full review
