If you are looking for a recording of the film version, this is not for you, however if you are a fan of the Musical, you can relive the magic over and over again with this recording. While most of the musical is adapted from the novel, it really is hauntingly beautiful. While not a true Opera, the music and acting make it very entertaining. This recording has lines from the script so it is almost like following the musical. You can listen to this rather than going to the theatre. If you must get a C.D. of Phantom get the full Original Cast and not the watered down Highlights. This is guaranteed to bring hours of entertainment to any musical fan and even some Opera fans.

To listen to this CD is the next best thing to attending the musical live on stage. You will be mesmerized by its beauty and raw talent of writing pieces of music that will change how you look and think of composing. My son is the main listener of this CD as he is preparing to be a part of an autumn presentation of The Phantom of the Opera in our central Illinois city. The producer specifically told the actors to study this particular CD to absorb the fullness of this production. I find it inspiring as a writer/composer myself. It helps open my mind to possibilities by listening to this great composing team. You may simply enjoy listening to it for the pure love of the art. Whatever the reason, as they say, "It's all good!"
This is a remastered 2 CD SET DIGIPACK of the original soundtrack. I already had (and have) a different ("studio") version and... This has some extra tracks/details (like the initial Prologue) - perhaps a (slightly) more "live"/theatrical version. Now I am moving from one to another version on my listenings. They're different (not much, but still...), both having good sound quality - it's a matter of taste.

I bought this as a gift for my 90 year old neighbor who is a great fan of Michael Crawford. She was thrilled to receive the CD's and the included booklet with dialogue and lyrics to all the songs. I am very pleased with the CD's, since they contained all the songs from the stage show, and since my neighbor was happy...so was I. All in all, it was a very good deal.
