This set is entitled NBA Dynasty Series - Los Angeles Lakers - The Complete History. However it should be called the Incomplete History, because the NBA did not go far enough in their offering to make this production truly whole. While I enjoyed the documentary footage and especially the from the First Dynasty as it looks back at Mikan, Baylor, West, and Chamberlain with rare and interesting footage, I was disheartened by the fact that (and this is my main problem) that the NBA offered their versions of the original broadcast games with regurgitated NBATV rebroadcasts which are poorly edited footage. Laker fans or NBA fans in general should know in advance this set does not include any of the complete games. All nine of them are edited with several minute clips missing from quarters as the NBA rebroadcast only allowed 90-100 minutes or so for their tv time slot. I was highly disappointed by my discovery that game 7 of the Western Confernce finals between the Lakers and Kings edited out nearly HALF of the first quarter. The editorial review said that the NBA edited out the slower moments of the games. I don't know about anyone else here, but I as a fan don't want the NBA to decide for me what a "slow moment" of the game is. I have the full game on VHS and this edited version is disappointing. HOw can you have a complete history without the complete game? It would not make sense to the NBA to have an edited documentary and all of the documentaries are farily complete reviews of each dynastic period. So why have incomplete, edited games with baskets missing? As a diehard fan I don't want to miss a single play and with each game you get in this set you are guaranteed to miss about 20 or minutes or more of action. I believe The NBA could have released this set to allow all of the game footage to play even if the footage isn't remastered, but they chose not to. To me this doesn't make sense because the Ultimate Jordan (Deluxe Limited Edition)features all 5 of Jordan's great games completely intact with all the baskets included. As well as NBA Dynasty Series - Philadelphia 76ers - The Complete History. All three are licensed by the league which should tell you something. This makes the product, while great in concept, subpar for the money and I believe a lot of fans would have been willing to pay a little extra to get all of the game footage. It also would be nice for any set releasing full games to add chapters to the quarters (which are often nearly nearly a half hour long or possibly longer) for easier navigation. In buying two dynassty sets (Philadelphia and Los Angeles) and the Ultimate Jordan set neither had this feature, which would have been nice so that you could have gotten to a certain shot much faster or prevent accidentally going all the way to next quarter or to the beginning of the current quarter as I experienced a few times when trying to rewind to a certain shot or sequence. I am not completely downing the set as the documentary footage is interesting and the edited games are better than nothing for people who do not have access to the games outside of purchasing this set. However if you are expecting complete games you will be disappointed by this offering. If you are a diehard you will get enjoyment from set as it will allow you to relive some historic and classic moments. However I recommend for those who can to get it at a discount and not pay full price for an incomplete history.Read full review
I have wanted this DVD series for a while. When I saw this for such a low price, I knew I had to buy. My favorite part is the games on the discs. To watch so many legendary, hall of fame players playing in real time makes this Lakers fan happy.

Kobe and Shaw might be the best 'One' 'Two' combo in basketball. This DVD was really great and makes you want to be a Lakers fan if your not one already. I bought this DVD primarily for Kobe-Shaq era as I believe that might be the second greatest team in NBA history next to the 94 Bulls. But I really enjoyed the entire set. One of the best features of the Box Set is that it includes full games of some of the classic matches in Laker history.
Not a very good collection. I bought it for my father's birthday. My father was very dissapointed on the outcome of the dvd. I totally aggreed with him. Also, it was odd that it didn't have a single picture on the cover of Kobe Bryant as the best player to ever play the game. It is also missing a few playoff games. such as, game 7 against the Traiblazzer, and the buzzer beater from Horry against the kings. The quality of the image is very poor and does not make any sense why the 2000s championship run looks very poor. Whomever put this uncomplete DVD must of dislike Kobe and ignored the lakers fans. Only a blind person could of done this. Not recommended to anyone.
An incredible series if outstanding athletes and games in one package. Travel back in time and enjoy some of the stars of basketball. I had never seen many of these players and the recordings are better than I'd expected. I am only on dis 2 so far but cannot wait to see the others. I want to savor it all. If you love basketball and history you will love this series. I certainly do. Outstanding! Thank you!
