Martha Finley wisely handles the aftermath of the Civil War and the Ku Klux Klan which causes division and strife in her family. I made a family tree as I read her books to help me keep track of the characters in the series. Is superb in exemplifying good family discipline while instilling Christian virtues and morals to develop good character in her children. I would rate the book for teens and adults. Parents should use discretion in reading some of the war conflicts to younger children. A tremendously interesting story.
