Metro Girl is Janet Evanovich's newest adventure introducing her new heroine, Alex Barnaby, AKA Barney. Since I am such a big fan of the Stephanie Plum series and her "Full" series, I had to see if Metro Girl lived up to Evanovich's previous series and it does! This is a great book! The plot revolves around Alex Barnaby who is pulled away from her normal insurance claim adjuster life when her brother Billie, AKA Wild Bill, Barnaby calls her in the middle of the night and hangs up on her with a scream in the background and then mysteriously disappears down in the Florida Keys. Alex teams up with the gorgeous Sam Hooker, famous NASCAR driver and unexpected love interest, as they chase after clues to find Bill and Hooker's power boat that Bill just happens to "borrows" from Sam. Racing to finding Bill and Sam's power boat, Alex finds herself in a the middle of a sunken gold treasure hunt which includes a lethal Soviet missile from the Kennedy Cuban Missile Crisis era that the bad guys are willing to do anything to get. Can she save her brother, Sam's boat and the world? Full of non-stop adventure, crazy mishaps, outrageous cast of characters and insanely wacky humor that Stephanie Plum fans have come to love, this new series will have you holding on to your seats of pants for dear life and rolling in uncontrollable laughter. A definite must read!Read full review
THIS IS THE FIRST JANET EVANOVICH BOOK I BOUGHT TWICE! After reading the paperback, I had to share it with another "Stephanie" fan who was reluctant to read a "Not-Plum" book by Evanovich. I wanted a copy to keep, so I bought the first-edition hardback version. This book features Alexandra Barnaby as the lead character, a college-degreed woman who puts family ahead of her career. I've read "Metro Girl" again and enjoyed it as much as I did the first time, laughing out loud and getting looks from strangers around me. Evanovich hits the nail on the head with her quirky supporting characters, Rosa & Felicia! (O.M.G., I know these women!). Then Janet adds Jude Corker to the mix, an old grade-school friend of Alexandra Barnaby's, now called "Judey" and out of the closest in Miami Beach. Judey is the "worry-wort" and adds caring and compassion to this story....What a hoot! Stephanie Plum's friend, Lulu, and her "Grandma" are hilarious....But "Metro Girl" Alex Barnaby's Miami acquaintances-turned-friends, Rosa & Felicia, are Lulu's and Grandma's Floridian counter-parts to the max. Of course Evanovich provides lead-character Alex with a love-interest...sexy, bad-boy Sam Hooker, a well-known "NASCAR-Guy" who likes to unwind in Florida between races....Flip-my-skirt and make-my-toes-curl! I'm not going to give away the plot for this adventure-filled, must-read creation from Janet Evanovich. And yeah, I was reluctant to buy a "But-It's-Not-Stephanie" book....After reading "Metro Girl", I'm hoping Janet Evanovich creates more over-the-top adventures for Alexandra Barnaby in Florida!Read full review
Amazing from start to finish. Action packed. Couldn't put it down once I got started. Janet Evanovich creates amazing characters and suspenseful action. I love the playful way the characters interact as well as tease and flirt. If you love her Stephanie Plum series you will love this book as well. I recommend reading Motor Mouth after you finish this one! :)
Bought for my girlfriend. She loved it.
