An historic look at Scott McClellan's "What Happened"
There is an important lesson to be learned from Scott McClellan's view of the Bush administration, when seen from an historic perspective. About the time Sinclair Lewis was writing "It Can't Happen Here," William Golding was experiencing something that would later lead him to write "Lord of the Flies." The time was 1935 as the Nazis took hold of Germany. According to William Golding, it wasn't so much an evil system that let Nazism take hold of Germany, but the people within that nation who allowed it to happen. Golding's belief was that even in the best of nations, it's the people who have been deciding right and wrong all along. And evil is not solely the byproduct of tyranny, oppression and totalitarianism, but the inner beast of all humankind. William Golding once said, by "looking at systems rather than at people ... a good system with bad men will turn into hell," as quickly as the other way around. And those who don't understand that paradigm will have the chance to witness the results time and again. What Happened by Scott Mcclellan
Historians start your engines it's time to figure out in the long run what was good and bad. Knowing more about the permanent campaign and how badly this has hurt out country since the Clinton years is the best thing I am coming away with. There will be hundreds of books eventually written, mostly by scholars long after those involved are alive. Let the party begin with this good read. I hope that this book brings this issue into the mainstream thought process as we pick our next president. I believe what he has to say. This is and will be the hot book for the summer, perfect timing!

What Happened by Scott Mcclellan (2008)
There is only so much back stabbing and manipulation the President can do before his inner circle turns on him. Scott McCellan was lied to and comes across in the book as a man who had the type of values that we would want serving in our government. Once he realized he had been played, just as all of us had, leading up to the Iraq war, he did what his conscious dictated. Hat off to the man who risked a lot to write a book about the Presidents betrayal of his inner circle of people. You can imagine how hard it will be for him to find a job after writing this book. What employer would hire someone who rats on their boss. He took a calculated risk. Way to go Scott.

This book is full of great insight into the workings and non-workings of our executive branch. I learned so much. Scott writes in a very objective way most of the time, which keeps the reader from getting too upset too often. He writes and explains his thinking and that of others. A document of historical significance. I wish we'd abide by his imploring to govern and work together.
