My son first saw this when he was nine and really enjoyed it. It's got adventure, it's got fun, it's got humor, but it also has multiple great messages. One being never give up your dreams, and nice guys do get the girl, and also it isn't a bad thing to be smart. It's about a smart, persistent scholar that is pretty much scoffed at at the university he works for as an underpaid janitor type. When he unexpectedly is offered a venture he can't refuse from a wealthy benefactor who was a close friend of his explorer grandfather. Adventure ensues, then wonder and awe at finding the lost city of Atlantis, complete with it's residents and a few secrets as well. And as often is the case, the government leader in charge wants to exploit it. Drama, some mild (animated) violence, love, friednship, and good guys conquering bad guys all mix together to make a fun family film.Read full review
Loved the movie! I am a big Disney fan so there is hardly a Disney film out there that I don't like. (There are some but I won't mention them here). This movie is about a young man named Milo who spend his time in a basement reading and studying old maps even though he'd rather be out in the world exploring...just like his grandfather used to. Through a series of events Milo gets his wish to discover the lost city of Atlantis with an expedition full of fun, lovable, and dangerous characters. Milo discovers the lost city of Atlantis and finds that there is an entire civilization still alive and well. When members of his expedition threaten the people of Atlantis, it is up to Milo to save the day and become the courageous hero his grandfather always knew him to be. This is a great movie for old and young alike. Grab some popcorn and some candy because you won't want to miss a second of what happens!Read full review

If you're ready to beat your head against the wall with one more viewing of a sappy-sweet Disney film, then this one's for you. A slightly darker, highly entertaining film for a wide age range, from elementary-school aged children to adults, but there are a few disturbing themes for very young children, including the old Disney favorite - dead mother (cf. Bambi, Finding Nemo, Cinderella, etc.) The stylish visuals are headed by Mike Mignola, an accomplished comic book artist, rather than a Disney Toon-town animation drone. The plot is old-school adventure, a cross between Raiders of the Lost Ark, Stargate, and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. A wealthy industrialist hires his nerdy archaeologist nephew Milo to decipher an ancient book containing clues to the finding the lost city. There's a perilous journey through sea and earth to find the submerged city, but the deadliest dangers may lie with Milo's travelling companions. Lots of action, memorable animated sequences, and not much which is going to be labelled as "too cute" for repeat viewing.Read full review
