I generally really like Douglas Niles' books and this book is good also. However, I do have a few criticisms of this book and the trilogy to which it belongs, but mainly regarding this third installment: 1. Way too much romance, which was often quite silly given the circumstances--sometimes I wondered whether I was reading a fantasy or a Harlequin Romance. 2. Battle scenes not bad but not enough numbers--often do not know for sure the strengths of the opposing armies. Too often says the evil minions are "countless"--can they really be countless? Gave it 4 out of 5.
I bought this as a Christmas Gift for my girlfriend; she loves it! She enjoys this particular author and genre. These books immerse you into an intriguing fantasy world; recommended for all ages!
