I purchased this book to use in my Fairy Tales unit. I teach second grade and this book goes well towards the end of the Fairy Tales unit after reading lots of the stories that The Jolly Postman refers to. The book is also very unique in that it holds letters written by fairy tale characters and mailed to fairy tale characters. The class learns about how to write a friendly letter, thank you note, etc. and also how to address an envelope. The story brings to life the act of sending a letter, card, or note to someone. They experience the part of opening and reading each card, letter, and note from the fairy tale characters and have fun guessing who the letter is from. I love the book and would recommend it to anyone that has children. It is definitely one to put on your bookshelf. My students have enjoyed it year after year!Read full review
This charming, witty book will delight kids from 3 or 4 to 8, maybe even 9 year olds with its interactive story of a little postman making the rounds of fairytale characters, delivering mail to them. Each letter or postcard is contained in its own (addressed) envelope, to be pulled out by the reader and read at each stop the postman makes. He visits Cinderella, the Three Bears, the Wicked Witch, and the Giant, among others, leaving each one with a humorous piece of mail pertinent to their own fairytale. It's one of those books that entertains on two levels of comprehension, with language that will engage both adults and younger children. Highly recommended!
My family owns the Jolly Postman Christmas book and it has always been one of my favorites. I was excited to find this original, non-holiday version to read the rest of the year! Though it doesn't have any puzzles or games (favorites of ours from the Christmas version), the letters and cards it contains are charming and clever. It's fun to see the connections between the book's contents and fairytales. It also includes a book-within-a-book similar to the Christmas version. I am very pleased with my purchase.

I bought this book because when my sister and I were little we would always want to get this book from the school. I thought this would also be a great book for my daughter when she is older because of the fun story. I just love how you can read one large story and each person in the story has their own story that you can read about.
I bought this book because I had it as a child and loved it. It's a great story that gets the child involved by opening each storybook characters mail. It is nice because it teaches the reader about postage and writing styles. It's a great story for more than one child because they can take turns opening the different letters.
