This books in general (the Dresden Files series) are more than great Science Fiction reading. There is a lot to the story line that transcends mere pleasure of reading and sets your mind on fire. I put this books in the same category as "The Davinci Code" I have found so many intriguing thoughts that make you think and evaluate your everyday lives. Intertwined with the fiction there are many interesting thoughts brought by the author. In this particular installment Harry Dresden, Chicago's only self proclaimed wizard, comes face to face with tormented, violent and deadly ghosts that have been purposely stirred to create havoc on the city. It is up to Harry, to find out why and put a stop to it, before anymore of his friends succumb to the tortures of this creatures. The narrative in these stories is great, and it is easy to become involved and to be right there next to Harry as he works things in his mind and brings an end to the caos. I highly recomend this book to anyone who has ever had a thought about the world of the supernatural. Many of the ideas projected in the books are very intriguing and thought provoking. The writing is superb and the story line filled with suspense and entertainment. Never a dull moment. Theories are explained in every day language easy for anyone to understand and follow. Masterful work, would love to meet the author. Jim Butcher's novel is one where horror, fantasy and good old fashion detective intrigue come together to provide a very entertaining product.Read full review
I enjoyed this book as I followed the detective and wizard, Harry Dresden. He has to discern evil from really evil in this story...no good here. We follow Dresden as he tries to save lives as well as his own and rid Chicago of pure evil. What I really like about the character is that he is completely human and is reminded that he's mortal in every situation. He tries to protect the ones that he loves and this just brings even more danger to many others. We also learn a little more about his early family and how he became to be a wizard and his training. He has a very good friend that is introduced in this book and he appears in later books as well. I am looking forward to the next installment for Dresden. Butcher has a wonderful imagination and a terrific way of expressing it!
A long sought edition. Arrived in good shape, and the binding is sound, though with many creases on the spine. So it goes. Very greatful to have it.

Harry Dresden is a wizard for hire in the mean streets of Chicago. Not many in the real world take him and his wizardry seriously. But in the preternatural world, he is a force to be reckoned. In this book, Harry pairs up with his friend Michael, a Knight of the religious order to save his friends from an evil called Nightmare. Twists and turns abound in every chapter! The action is fantastic, the mistical implecations are fascinating, and Harry is just so darn wonderfully likable.
The entire series of Harry Dresden ("Dresden Files") books are terrific. They are all mysteries that just happen to involve paranormal beings and Harry, a low-key kind of guy whose Yellow Pages ad offers wizard's services. His cat, Mister, is a force of nature, and his enormous dog, Mouse, is an escapee from a Tibetan temple. His friends and enemies are many and varied. You can chart Harry's growth as a wizard and as a person from one book to the next.
