I have been reading Dean Koontz for many years. Yes, I'm old enough to have read his early books when they first came out..lol. I picked a copy of this up at the library and thought, "What the heck...it's not his usual genre, but I'll give it a try". Anyone who has read Koontz is familiar with Trixie. I felt like I knew her just from seeing her with him on the jackets of his books. Well, I didn't expect to be wowed by this book. Yes, I love dogs, but I thought this would be another "aren't dogs great?" books. So not true...this book made me belly laugh out loud, and cry like I just put my own fur baby to sleep. You will grow to know and love Trixie as much as her papa did. Sappy? Not at all. Koontz knows how to draw you in...you know this if you've read him. You won't be sorry. Read this!Read full review

I love Dean Koontz, his books, his kindness, his down to earth love of life. In this heartwarming book, he tells of personal issues of his life. Including some areas that are probably difficult to write about. But at the core, is the love and fulfillment that was brought into his and his wife Gerda's life with the arrival of his wonderful dog Trixie. I have only read about 50 pages of this Proof, but as with all of his books, even more so with this one because it gives the reader a view into the daily life and inner world that Mr. koontz lives, one can only feel a greater kindship and appreciation for this man who is such a wonderful person. I guess it is safe to say that Trixie is to be credited somewhat for Mr. Koontz appreciation for the things in life that are real, and the unselfish love, kindness and devotion that can be had, and taught from a wonderful dog/companion. I feel that Mr. Koontz has always been an exceptionally good, kindhearted , caring, down to earth man. I just presume that the love that Trixie brought into his life just multiplied it considerably. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to get a good feeling inside. And to anybody who wants to learn a little bit more about love. Thank you Mr Koontz for letting us (the reader) into your personal thoughts and heart. And thank you for sharing this wonderful part of your life with us, the reader, your fans. DanRead full review
Dean Koontz is my favorite author and I understand the human/pet love so I bought this book on both counts. It gave me a peek into Koontz's life as just a person - not as a famous author and I felt privileged to have the opportunity to share his relationship with Trixie. I was already in love with Trixie from Koontz's website; after reading this I felt I knew her, and I loved her even more. I knew this was not going to be a 'happy ever after' ending and I dreaded getting to the end. Koontz drew me in to the anguish he and Gerda were going through, and I felt their pain. Tears were streaming down my face as I read about Trixie's last few days. This is an excellent book; from a very excellent author.
This is an excellent book for anyone who loves animals and dogs in particular. What a great piece of philosophy on life in general. Dean Koontz is a popular author - to get one of his few non-fiction works is special. Of all the things he could have written about with nearly 900 million books sold - this must be a special and important topic! Makes a great gift for that dog over you know - required reading for all Retriever owners!
What a heartwarming book.I couldn't put it down. You would love to know Dean Koontz, straightforward, honest, no baloney and fun. What a lucky bonding between man and dog. You love how he thinks from the dog's perspective. It was nice of Mr Koontz to give a us look into a writer's life. Who ever thought a writer's life would come with crazies.Yikes. Mr. Koontz is such a generous man. Can't wait to hear adventures about Anna. Love goldens myself, lost one at 13, lost one at 11 1/2, still got one 16 yr(yep). You create your own Joy.
