Features Actors:Ron Perlman, Selma Blair, Doug Jones, Jeffrey Tambor, Luke Goss, Anna Walton, Seth MacFarlane, John Hurt Running Time:2 Hours Rating:PG-13 An undetermined period of time has passed since the events of the first film, but plenty of changes have taken place at the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Development. Hellboy (Perlman) is now living with his firestarting girlfriend/co-worker, Liz Sherman (Selma Blair), Agent Myers has been transferred out of the BPRD headquarters, and Johann Krauss (Seth MacFarlane) – a disembodied ectoplasmic spirit with psychic powers who maintains a human shape via a containment suit – has been brought in to keep Hellboy on a short leash following the cigar-chomping demon's outing to the public. Abe Sapien (Doug Jones) is still swimming around the BPRD offices as well, and he’s inadvertently discovered a secret about Liz that has caused a rift in her relationship with Hellboy. The trio’s personal lives are put on hold, however, when Prince Nuada (Luke Goss) returns from exile to challenge his father’s millennia-old peace treaty between humans and the creatures of a mystical otherworld. But in order to declare war, Nuada must first track down the missing piece of a fabled crown that allows him to control the Golden Army – a piece that just so happens to be in the possession of his twin sister Nuala (Anna Walton), who has sought refuge with Hellboy and Co.Hellboy’s partner-in-crime Abe Sapien (played and voiced by Doug Jones), who’s not only given a love interest in the equally psychic Princess Nuala, but also gets a nice comedic moment with Hellboy involving some late-night drinking and Barry Manilow’s “Can’t Smile Without You.” Can they stop Prince Nuada from awakening the Golden Army before it's too late?? Great movie & special effects.A must-see for the First Hellboy fans!Ron Perlman (Hellboy) continues to shine as the cigar-chomping, cat-loving title character. And a new addition Johann Krauss adds to this group of characters, with a personality all his own.Hope this helps you decide. Thanks for reading! :)Read full review
If you enjoyed the original then you will love this sequal. Unfortunately, if you didn't care for the first Hellboy, then this one isn't going to sway you into the series either. The original cast combine with a few interesting new characters in order to take on an enemy who, quite frankly, is much more interesting and deep than the ones from the first film. This film does incorporate a couple of love stories, which I normally detest in an action film, but they don't really take away from the plot and are meted out in short doses to keep the guys attention. Lots of action, pretty interesting storyline, and no real boring spots where the story seems to linger on. All in all (yes I did like the original) I'd give it an 8/10.
I'm a HUGE fan of the comics and thought that the first movie was done just right. I think Hellboy II: the Golden Army is as good as the first movie. It takes awhile to get used to Doug Jones' voice as Abe, but once you do, you see why it's better to have the guy in the suit doing his own dialog. And Seth McFarlane does a fine job voicing Johann (although not as I had imagined him). The design work is superior to the first movie and the humor is ratcheted up a notch. The fights are better and more thrilling and the monsters are way cool. Great use of costumes and CGI working together (something Lucas should have done more of in the Star Wars prequels) to make everything feel REAL. I expect many won't like it as much as the first movie because the newness will be lost. This was in fact my immediate reaction as well; but after a few days I realized I was just as excited to see it again as I was the first one. The story isn't as grandiose as the first Hellboy, and the overall pace and build have a few problems.Read full review
The beginning was good, but the golden army was odd looking and child-like. They tell you early on how the movie would end, I figured only one way and I was correct!

It's a type of super-hero fantasy film, but the second film helps to tie up the first and explain some loose ends. It's got good action and is fun.
