I enjoyed this book about the life of Sheila Macrae encompassing her years with singer-husband Gordon Macrae. It was informative beginning with her early years in England and her coming to America. She showcased her young marriage which produced 4 children and lasted for 25 years and ended sadly. Gordon lost his mother in the 1950's and it was shortly after that and the stress of Hollywood that caused him to acquire a dependence to alcohol which affected his home and working life equally. A few years after their marriage broke up in the mid 1960's Gordon beat his dependence and started a life with someone new as did Sheila. As far as chronological information it is excellent. The one thing that I have mixed feelings about is the fact that Sheila Macrae was a mentally abused wife who had to carry the family while her dependent husband was incapacitated and in between scenarios with Gordon other men were making amorous advances toward her and in her explanations she depicts herself as an extremely sexy woman that is wanted by every man in Hollywood. Even years later she describes her sexual escapades which is more than I cared to know about. I think perhaps if this book portrayed some of the other wonderful qualities of Gordon it would have been more of a touching book. Instead, it seems to be from a woman who was needy for so many years and now has decided to "toot her own horn".Read full review
