Tommy Kirk plays Merlin Jones a brainy misunderstood genuis at Midvale college. Merlin is captivated by the complexity of the human mind and is determined to unlock its secrets. Merlin invents a machine that records human brain waves (made out of a football helmet), while testing the invention on himself a short circuit gives Merlin the ability to hear people privates thoughts. The rest of the movie centers around Merlin getting into trouble with his newly aquired ability. Most of Disney's Teen movie plots seem to be repetitious using an accident to create some abnormal ability in a young person "The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes, Now You See Him Now You Don't, The Strongest Man in The World" In my opinion Disney mismatched Jones & Funicello in the role of boyfriend girlfriend. Annette will always be remembered as Frankie Avalons girlfriend while Tommy Kirk run around the neighborhood as a sheep dog but the movie is fun and I rate it a 7 out of 10.Read full review
Adventures of Merlin Jones, Monkeys Uncle and Monkeys Go Home are childhood favorites, and they were 30+ years old when I was a kid. The DVD quality is okay, probably 720p. The price was just a little high for what seems to me a movie that's not particularly popular, but that Disney Vault business keeps the scarcity in play for most titles. I do wish Disney would re-release a lot of these older movies, more regularly than they do, and perhaps in sets (4 movies). I also own a lot of the Disney Treasures tins dvd collections (Mickey, Donald, Goofy Vol 1, 2, etc). They're OOP and have gotten expensive. World of Nature series is on my Wish List, I just love the story telling and narrator. Perhaps when Disney takes over Hulu programming, which I anticipate, we'll be able to watch more older classics on demand for a reasonable monthly rate.Read full review

Classic Disney fare from the 1960's. Fair plot with grownup Tommy Kirk and Annette Funicello. Pleasant way to spend Saturday afternoon.

SILLY comedy but CUTE; Don't expect any Academy Award performances; Family Friendly; Grandkids loved it (ages 4,6,10); Definitely on the level of other Disney/Disney like classics: Absent Minded Professor; FLUBBER; Lovebug. (Still prefer seeing Annette in the beach movies with Frankie)
