Years ago I fell in love with Archy and Mehitabel, a funny, creative and often philosophical story of the life of an alley cat (Mehitabel) as told by her friend Archy, a cockroach in the newspaper office. Told? Typed! Archy dives from the top of the typewriter, landing head first on each key... He can't hold down a shift key, so there isn't capitalization or punctuation, and only irregularly does Archy do a line break. My folks bought the LP when the story was produced in music form. In very short time, I practically wore the grooves off the vinyl. Carol Channing was perfect as the voice of Mehitabel! When I saw that the LP had been remastered on a CD, I was thrilled. An additional bonus was the inclusion of Saint-Saens' Carnival of the Animals, made even more charming (for me) by Ogden Nash's short poems as part of the narrative. This CD will delight those with a wry sense of humor or whimsy. Toujours gai, as Mehitabel says! Enjoy the music and the fun!Read full review
