I found myself much more interested in Kate Klein's past life; her life out of college, living with Janie, living in the same building as Evan, than her current life as a mom and would-be detective. I would get embroiled in the chapters of the past then disappointed to find myself brought to the present again, and I could barely remember what was even happening. It was enjoyable, but I did find the ending to be rushed and contrived. I felt like I wasted a lot of time getting to know characters who had nothing to do with anything. Jennifer Weiner is an outstanding writer, but this one fell a bit flat for me. I had so many questions at the end. I think the best character (in the present) was the wee lassie, Sophie!
great value, just like the description. I got free books

I had high expectations of this book and they went flat. I bought it b/c it was it had rave reviews at RochesterMommies.com- a group I participate in w/ other mommies. I felt it had a slow start and was only okay. It was well written and the end was much better than the take off- it just didn't live up to my expectations and I doubt I will re read this one. You may be left wondering if the author will have a part two.... but that would be a separate story & doesn't take away from the mystery of this title.
Of all of Jennifer Weiner's books, this was by far my favorite. Ms. Weiner found a way to give you a mystery but yet inject humor in it to keep it light and moving. You will be touched at the persistence of this young mother who becomes involved in the investigation of a friend's murder. She has become bored being a stay at home mom in a town most analogous to "Stepford." In order to fight becoming a "Stepford Wife," she seeks answers to questions that she feels are not even being asked in an effort to find the culprit who murdered her friend. If you can only read one of Jennifer Weiner's books, this would be my pick.
I read this in 2 days because I couldn't put it down. Jennifer Weiner's writing is so witty and real in her other books so combining that with a mystery really works. It will keep you guessing until the end who murdered the "perfect" mommy in the upscale community of SUV driving mom's who only feed their children organic food. Very good book.
