Notes
Authentic, sensitive, dreamy, haunting and often melancholic folksongs that are intuitive; silent fragments from a turbulent life. Judy has a unique voice that brings comfort and touches. Swimming in the profoundness of her emotions, she sings, releasing herself from the emotional depths. Personal songs that touch, melodies that stream into your heart. Songs about life, love, loss, joy, magic and victory. The album 'North of the River' is the debut album of Dutch singer-songwriter Judy Benschop. The album was recorded in the Sound Vision Studios in Arnhem. Acoustic guitar, bass, grand piano, a Rhodes piano, a 1957 Hammond and Judy's soothing touching voice. Judy comes from a creative and artistic family. She started playing piano and guitar in her teens and sang in a teen choir. At that time, she was inspired by singer-songwriters like Melanie, Donovan and Janis Joplin. During the eighties Judy lived in Guadalajara, Mexico: the capital of the famed Mariachi players, where her love for the guitar and the emotions in music multiplied. Since 2007 she has been enchanted by the music she found flowing from within her and hasn't stopped writing music since. She has the power to make you listen to the story she has to tell, while delivering her message in a clearly sung, soulful, haunting, and provocative way. Her music leaves you wanting more, her songs are bound to captivate you; they are melodic and infectious. Her audience likens her voice and musical style to such artists as: Melanie, Joan Baez, Joni Mitchell, Eva Cassidy, Linda Perhacs, Katie Melua and the Cranberries.
