Gene & Cathy Florence have done it again! This reference is filled with great professional color photos, so great that you can actually see the detail of patterns. Glass is very difficult to photograph which is all the more reason to be impressed. They have included a wealth of information about each pattern, the glass producers of that time, and even about reproductions since. Up to date price listings reflect the current market values as well as point out the regional availability of certain pieces. This is THE BOOK to own if you only want to buy 1 or 2 books on the subject. I have found this invalueable in my Ebay & garage/estate sale shopping. Collector's Encyclopedia will be a great tool for creating your Ebay listings to include detailed story line information along with correct values & comparative pricing. I hate to see listings with over valued prices either because they're going by an old price guide, or they have no idea of true market value. Many pieces of depression glass have gone down in value over the past few years, while certain pieces have sky rocketed. You really need to keep updated in order to make wise & informed purchase descisions. Save money & make money! Buy this book! JoAnRead full review
The authors have spent many years collecting Depression era glass and share their knowledge in easy to understand descriptions of the items, including accurate measurements, colors, features to look for, and how to detect fakes! They provide numerous pictures of each pattern, unlike other guides which provide you with only one picture of a pattern, leaving new collectors to wonder what they should be looking for. The back of the book contains reproduction information so you know how to differentiate between the real thing and reproductions, saving you from investing your money in the fakes. The prices are not current, since this book was written in 2006, but I have found it to be useful in my collecting to have several back issues of their books for the shear volume of pictures that are avaiable of each pattern. I would highly recommend this book to any collector of Depression Glass!Read full review
I bought this book to help me with recent inheritance of glassware and cookware. It is AWESOME. It is very easy to use because of all the great color photos, that are large and easy to see details. If you happen to know the company, you can look for the company. There is interesting history about the glassware that is brief, but all you need to know. If concerned about prices, estimates are in the book too. All is listed alphabetically making it easy to find what you need. The book is so interesting with so many gorgeous photos, it is fun to pick up and read, or thumb through while waiting at Dr's office. I very highly recommend this book to anyone, not just someone interested in selling. It is fun to read.
