The Canon Canonet 28 is a great little 35mm, perfect for a city street walk or a day hike. It's light, compact, but not too small as to be awkward in your hand. The fixed 40mm medium wide angle lens is sharp and is easy to rangefinder focus. Because it is an auto exposure camera, be sure to acquire the correct 1.35V battery, preferably the modern Wein air cell. When buying used, be prepared for the foam light seals on the film door to be worn out, compressed or missing, causing light leaks onto the film. They can be replaced with exact kits or DIY methods found on the internet. I initially sealed the film door on mine with black electrician's tape for each roll of film. I'm glad a bought the Canonet; it's been fun to play with!

Nice piece of Canon history with a really crisp lens. This is the New Canonet 28, made from 1971 to 1976. Shutter functions without a battery at a default 1/30 sec. Apertures from f/2.8 to f/16. Otherwise, get a battery and switch to "AUTO" to get the most out of this rangefinder camera. Typical Canonet blue and yellow viewfinder which is nice and bright. When I got mine it was a little foggy, but a cleaning was an easy fix. Old cameras like this one could use new seals which are easy to replace, but if you don't trust yourself; get a CLA job by an experienced camera dude. I've gotten some really nice photos out of it. Also try the Canonet QL17 GIII if you prefer a Canonet with manual options.
This is a great camera if you want to try out a rangefinder, you can usually find one for pretty cheap so you can try it and if you like using one, then buy a more expensive one.

This Canon camera works wonderfully! It's my first 35mm film camera, and I found it easy to learn how to use. I took it with me on vacation and I appreciated the light and compact design. I'm impressed by the crisp and clear quality of the photos!

Be sure to use a Wein 1.3v battery from BH so that the Camera meters properly. It’s awesome for what it is!
