This was the first book I read by Jodi and it was great. The book is really about two different stories. Two teenagers who are madly in love make a pact to kill themselves and one of them survives. This book takes you on a journey of the way teenagers think. It also shows you how the parents of these two families cope with their loss. There is so much suspense , I wanted to flip to the end , but don't it will ruin the book. I highly recommend this book!
I purchased The Pact by Jodi Picoult after seeing it displayed at my local bookstore. I was happy to find it at such a reasonable price at half.com. It is a very engrossing read. I was drawn into the relationship between the two families and the dynamics of the resulting romance of their children. A few of the plot twists felt a little far fetched but the overall story made it impossible to put the book down. The trial scenes were wonderfully exciting and vividly written as was the entire book. I read it in one weekend and had to fight the urge to flip to the last page to see how it would end.
I am a hug fan of Picoult, this was my 5th book. She has an impeccable way of bringing her characters to life, you feel as if you are part of the story. She is masterful with the exploration of relationships, not just a love story, but freiendships, family, etc. She shows how everyone involved is impacted by decisions that are made. Worth reading, but not one of her best.
I loved this book- got through it in 2 days. Couldn't put it down! I liked how the tempo of the book kept increasing as more of the details of the plot were revealed. The story seemed like it could really happen, and gave me a lot to think about- as I work with teenagers as a high school counselor. I decided to buy it on a recommendation from a friend, and am now into my 2nd Jodi Picoult "My Sister's Keeper", which already has me hooked. I think I've just become a Jodi Picoult fan!
I have read seven of the fourteen novels Jodi Picoult has written. Of the seven I have read this is my least favorite. Ms. Picoult obviously does a lot of research on all of her novel topics and this was no exception. I did feel that it was weak and unrealistic in places and too tidy at the end, though. If this novel had been written by anyone else I probably would give it a higher rating, but I have come to expect more from a Jodi Picoult novel and it was definitely not my favorite.
