Fantastic series, great characters that are likable as well as very real. Rebecca DeMornay, Bruce Greenwood, Luke Perry just to name a few!! This is one of those shows that takes you along for the ride. Easily my favorite show ever. And I normally do not like shows that use rude language. Obviously, there is language and adult situations in the show including paranormal ones. It can be touching and funny one minute and flip a switch the next it is as real as a dysfunctional life can get. WOW... circles within circles, story lines in story lines intricately woven to give the viewer the over all impression of a seat of the pants kind of life that real people live. This is not your milk and honey and "Leave it Beaver" America; this is the America that came through Vietnam and started trippin'. Family living on a shoe string budget, raising a grand child while their son is off scoring some dope. Just as a teaser you have to see this series to know what I mean. It is worth the watch! Enjoy!Read full review
What a shame only 1 season came of this. It had an incredibly strange, diverse and most talented cast, crew and story. What we saw of the story - and we know there's ALOT that wasn't able to be told - kept us glued to our seats every Sunday night for about 2 months. Everyone has ther own take on what the show was about. Some say the Yost family & their friends (we became part of that dysfunctional family and they're gone!); others say forgiveness and acceptance of others and self; others say redemption. I believe it's all those and much, much more. The story was a strange, wonderous, horrifying, mysterious, forgiving, mystical, suspenseful, surprising, funny, and heartbreakingly poignant story for thinkers, wonderers and dreamers. It's NOT for everyone, I do agree with that statement. If all you want is to be entertained, this isn't for you! If you want a show, though an admittedly unfinished one (it's so weird & interesting that it's worth seeing the one season) that truly makes you think, then this may be for you. As I mentioned, JFC had only one season (the last straw with HBO, now I have Showtime & LOVE IT), but it was quite a powerful one. Use your imagination and keep your mind open. You'll love this story and will be left wanting. Perhaps someday the execs at HBO will allow creator David Milch and author Kem Nunn (he writes in the genre of 'surf noir') to finish telling their story in book form. HBO can make $$$ while the fans find out what happens next to some of their all-time favorite TV characters.Read full review
Well this was a very controversial show. The Christian community did not like it and forced HBO to stop producing it or showing it on the AIR !!! I can see why they had issues with the miracle of a parrot kissing Shawnee back to life. Or Mitch levitating "up in the air" Then the great actor Ed O'Neil who was Al Bundy was able to talk like he really wanted to on network TV but was not allowed to so it was offensive to the Christians but NOW it is not so evil as to BLOCK it from airing on HBO After all if you subscribed to the premium channel and did not like the content of a show you have the ability to CHANGE to another channel or just do not watch the show at all !! Anyway it is a BRILLIANT show well acted with an amazing ensemble cast, and I don't know Butchie instead
I watched the first and only season on HBO and fell in love with the oddity and dysfunction of the characters as well as the story line. The show was the polar opposite from the usual mindless "reality" and "who done its" that congeal themselves into a short attention span blob that tends to be network television. As an HBO original series, it's for mature audiences which adds to the entertainment value but does not fill it with gratuitous adult language or scenes (no nudity). There are scenes and story situations that tend to be of a supernatural nature which add to the genuine oddity of the show that helps it to seperate from the rest. This show is a must for those who are tired of the mundane channel surfing and want to look forward taking a break from everyday reality through the unrealistic. Search for the show on EBay, I found it for about $15.00 with free shipping well worth it. If you are as taken by the show as I was, there is a website with a petition for HBO to bring the show back. There are also websites to give you more info on the show. Good luck, hope this helps. Mark From LincolnRead full review
This a great series with what I consider an uplifting story to tell. It's a shame that the series only went for 1 season but they still manage to tie it all together in the end. 10 hours of great entertainment for one low price.
