What more can one say about "Tales From The Crypt" that hasn't already been said? If you've never heard about this ground breaking HBO cable horror series by Robert Zemeckis, then you're not a horror fan & will get no enjoyment from the series! Season 5 is more of the same gore & terror we've come to expect from the series! This DVD set features the usual 13 episodes done up on 3 DVDs & packaged in 2 thin DVD cases with wonderful graphics & a list of all episodes, cast, directors & a brief synopsis, all surrounded by a cardboard shell that looks similar to the original EC comics that spawned the series. The episodes are not for the squeamish! There is plenty of blood & guts in these tales, but the stories themselves are worthwhile, filled with many twists, & not just a mindless collection of gore stories. They are all introduced by our favorite rotting corpse, the Cryptkeeper, who injects humor & terror to his grim introductions. The stories range from an aging photographer who tries to make a comeback while fending off a new talented, but naive rival, A circus that is anything but entertaining, A conman salesman who finally meets his match, A cocktail waitress who runs afoul of a mob boss' wife, a wife killer who can't shake a stalking cop & gets a nasty surprise, A fraternity initiation prank that goes awry, A magician who tries to kill his way to the top only to have the tide turned on him & many more stories to delight, disgust & scare the pants off you! Star power has always been a trademark of this series & season 5 is no exception! Some of the big names include Roger Daltry, Steve Buscemi, Priscilla Pressley, Ernie hudson, Wil Wheaton, Bill Paxton, Adam West, Sam Waterston, Traci Lords, Martin Sheen & Billy Zane. There are many more from all aspects of TV, film & music! If you're a fan of horror, This is a must DVD for you!Read full review
#5 Is pretty much the same as season 3 ~ 4 It looks like some stories were not in the original comics and fitted in just to put out 13 episodes. The individual episodes all reminded me of 70's or 80's "B" movies, only shorter. They did include some of the 80's sorta big stars such as Martin Sheen, Pricila Presley and a young Steve Buscimi. Even Brooke Shields has a leading lady role in a so-so episode. My fav's were Sam Waterson, Bill Paxton and Will Wheaton. Also, a popular episode that has Traci Lords in a sexy role. 'Story lines are the same, we have magicians, circus stuff, killers and Stalkers, Mobsters, Blood, Gore, and twisted endings. This season completes my collection!

The reason for my love with the TFTC series is the fact that I grew up watching these for the years that it was on. I remember looking forward to them each week and mainly was concerned with how the Crypt Keeper was going to set up the story as well as his zany comments at the end of the show. Another attraction to having these, is the stars that they had casted for the episodes. It seems that they cast the right people for the right part. I even thought that Brooke Shields did a great job in a role that was not anything like the typical "Blue Lagoon" "Endless Love" type parts that she had played before. If you're not a fan of these, you might not appreciate it as much as someone who grew up watching them. Although each of the stories are a bit unique in there own way and there is enough dark humor to keep even the most hardcore horror fan entertained for the half hour presentations. There are even a couple of them that will give you the willies as the story unfolds. In conclusion... I would recommend this series to anyone who grew up watching these or anyone who is a fan of the B-Grade horror movies of the 80's. If you're neither of these then you probably would just watch a few of them from time to time without any real feeling about them either way. They are fun for a Friday night with a few buddies though and you do get alot of episodes with one purchase. There are 5 seasons on sale and I truly do love them all.....Read full review
The discs looked like they had been handled poorly. Then it was two seasons in one package with no cover or box.
