Kagamibutu Netsuke With Bowl - ?shakudo With Gold Fish And Silver Fishing Line For SaleUp for sale is a kagamibuta netsuke with what I think is a shakudo depiction of a fish with a fishing line attached to it. The fish has high relief and is gold in color, and the fishing line is silver in color. The bowl is of natural substance. See the photos for details and see nice cross hatching. It has a small opening in the back for a thin post to pass through it and attachment to the metal disc. The back of the metal disc has been scored (see photos) and I think somehow treated with something to make it turn a silver color. I can only think that the scoring was done by someone in the past to help glue adhere better to it and the bowl. Indeed, there seems to be glue residue in the bowl or something brownish in color. I haven't attempted to remove it from the bowl, but do believe it is possible. The scoring and the silver color on the back of the disc is another story. I don't think anything can be done with that. Someone could solder a thin post on the back of the disc and feed it through to the bowl...OR the disc could be reglued into the bowl. The diameter of the disc is 2.9 cm and the diameter of the bowl is 4.9 cm.The bowl is 1.1 cm thick.I was told it dated around 1880, but I am not certain of the date. I would say Meiji period and maybe pre-1900 Meiji. The disc is not smooth on the top because I assume to make it look like water or waves. The thickness is not uniform either. Please look at the photos and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. I will do my best to answer any and all questions.Thank you very much!
