This original, antique (c. 1902) 24 1/2 in. ROMAN HELMET LEADED GLASS SHADE & LAMP has a metal stamped mark on the shade rim: \"TIFFANY STUDIOS NEW YORK 1564-7\" (see pics).

The reason that it is offered as a TIFFANY ATTRIBUTION (and, hence, the low reserve) is the fact that the top 6 rows of matched yellow/orange glass pieces are HORIZONTALLY rather than VERTICALLY oriented (as in all of the photos that of Tiffany Roman \"COLONIAL FLARING\" GEOMETRIC shaded lamps that I can find. Perhaps this is explained by the stamped shade no. with the \"-7\" suffix, indicative of a special production of this shade variation.

A manifestation of its 100 yr. + age are the 19 stable, heat cracks found in the shade. The bronze finial and acorn pulls are definite Tiffany as is the tall bronze lamp base marked on bottom: \"TIFFANY STUDIOS NEW YORK D808\". Also, the use of mottled glass, polychromatic, and monochromatic glass plaques bespeaks Tiffany/

CONDITION: Overall VERY FINE. The array of perfectly matched colored glass (with the predominance of orange, yellow and red plus green swirled glass at the bottom ) is simplyBREATH-TAKING!! Mentioned above are the heat cracks. One acorn pull has been replaced. Modern rewiring; and the lamp functions perfectly except for one socket that does not work.
