This type of Chinese bowie knife was popular in the United States circa 1850. Some were made in China and brought here by immigrants and others were made in the US by Chinese smiths. Reference Levine\'s book Knifemakers of Old San Fransisco page 61. This example is 11 3/8 inches long overall with a 7 5/8 inch carbon steel blade. It has a thick brass guard and pommel. The handle is some type of smooth hard wood. This knife is used and has wear. It has a nice light overall patina. There is no sheath. Shipping is $8.95
