These were purchased from a top doll dealer a few years ago. They are extremely RARE. These were I believe from a store window and were made by Bernard Ravca, one of the greatest doll makers of the 20th century for Christmas window display. The fact they survived with the very fragile materials made is amazing. They are a combination of crepe paper, many fabrics, wire, paint, cardboard all the things that created the magic that is the distinctive quality of Bernard Ravca. Tremendous charming details. I do not know of any others like these and of this very large size meant for a window. These would be perfect for your home Christmas decoration, for a display in a museum collection Christmas setting, for under glass in a fine doll collection. Also amazing as period props for a movie set or theater. The charm of his work and the detail are amazing. Note carefully and examine well: there is some over all wear and loss so in a listing like this the dolls must be "as is" but no smells they were stored in a dry place and very carefully cared for. Over years there is wear. We have to reduce our storage therefore part of a fine doll collection that will be sold. They are very very special and evocative of another time and place of Olde English/American 18th century Christmas caroling. Like Charles Dickens period looking back even earlier with the 18th century tri-corner hat. These are all hand made works and believe them to be one of a kind works that were ordered directly at the time for this store window. Can one imagine all the little ones looking at a beautiful Christmas scene in a window sometime in the 1930's-40's approximate dating. Tremendous details. All handmade. You are not likely to ever see other large works like this made by the great doll maker Bernard Ravca in his highly sought after crepe figures. It is even hard to estimate a starting offer. Starting offer has been lowered. We have a lot of items still to get on to . They are only being sold because we have no room for doll collection and am selling. My hope is that they go into a museum collection or private collection that will document them.This is for the serious collector who understand how rare these are and will handle them gently and carefully and these are NOT for a "look see buyer." We will answer any questions. Child figure is approx. 16 and 1/2 inches tall. The adult carolers: Figure in white "fur" coat is 20 inches tall, the figure in green tri-corner hat is 21 inches tall. Please ask us all questions prior to offerding. Have looked for identification on them but they don't appear to have been made with any label or signature. I think because they were to be placed in window for commercial use not for the public. Many of his works are without labels as these works as far as I could see. There are some fascinating historical professional pictures made of him and with his wife and their dolls which can be seen on the web.
