Huge Antique 17th Century Gilt Wood Procession Cross On Ornate Bronze Stand 57" tall overall ; the gilt wood cross is 40 " tall , the gilded bronze lower part is 20.5" tall. The piece is 57H x 24W x 11Deep , inches. These are Southern ( Italy is most likely) European pieces which were most often used in ceremonies on the holiest days of the year like Paques or Easter. The exceptionally detailed Cross was placed on a long pole and paraded through the town by a church official. When the days procession ended , and the officiant was back at the Cathedral the Cross would be desplayed in a holder as shown. The wood was re-gilt in 2001in Paris where we found this. The base is beautifully gilded and has turquoise minerals smelted in the extraordinarily ornate design . Ships in 1 box via FedEx ground OR if you use Uship it will be less costly.
