RARE 30" BOSTON SANDWICH GLASS BANQUET LAMP C1860-1880 - UNDER 10 KNOWN EXIST :
$16985.00

EXTREMELY RARE MONUMENTAL 30" BOSTON SANDWICH GLASS BANQUET LAMP - Less than 10 known to exist. - C1860-80One is in the Boston Sandwich Glass Museum. We have the privilege to offer you this rare, monumental punty andpanel emerald green cut to clear 30 inch Boston and Sandwich glassbanquet lamp with a rare quatrefoil ball deep emerald green 7 3/8”diameter ball shade, the hues being a deeper green in both ends ofthe font and the base in this lamp. Emerald Green being the hardestcolor to find. More are found in blues. And no matter what color, only a very few exist with their original ball shade. This lamp is period, from the 1860 to 1880period, and all original and is in excellent condition, measuring 21inches to the collar and 30 inches to the top of the ball shade, coming with its original marked Duplex burner. (The burner has acouple of minor splits, commensurate with age and use, as the photosshow.)

This lamp is considered to be therarest of the Sandwich glass lamps measuring 21 inches to the collarand supported by a double step 6 ¼ inch square marble base with castgilt bronze ornamentation in the Corinthian style.. There is normalroughness on the step up marble base as the photos show, commensuratewith age and use.

A similar example of this lamp is oneof the three overlay banquet lamps featured by Maude Feld in an adpublished in the 1966 March issue of Hobbies Magazine. She said itis “absolutely unique”, only one I have seen with its originalmatching overlay globe”, and “an unbelievable gem”.

As mentioned, the punty ball shade isof a slightly deeper emerald green, thinking when the font is fullthe emerald green would match the base and ball shade perfectly. The shades were mixed and matched when purchased at the factory. This lamp comes with a second shade, a frosted, flint glass flaredshade, having the normal factory roughness on the base and a few minor scratches, for use when less light wasneeded. Most only come with a shade such as this flint one, makingthe green original ball shade, in wonderful condition, very valuable.

This gorgeous lamp was recentlydeaccessioned from a local museum. For both the artistic beauty ofthe color and rarity and history you just can not beat this lamp. It is doubtful that you can find another one of this caliber for sale. Itis a one of a kind item that will enhance any living area, whileretaining its intrinsic value.

Good reference for this lamp is theSandwich Glass Museum and the Glass Industry in Sandwich by Barlowand Kaiser, who was a past customer of ours in the 1970's. No onewill ever forget the Jeffrey Evans sale of January 31, 2015 when lot158, a 3 step up taller Boston and Sandwich banquet lamp in this raregreen color WITHOUT a ball shade brought $18,400.00 including the 15% buyers'premium.
