His TVshow, The Red Skelton Hour, was consistently in the top twenty from 1951 to 1971.Numerous zany characters included: George Appleby, Clem Kadiddlehopper, Freddiethe freeloader, Cauliflower McPugg, Willie Lump Lump, and the seagulls Gertude andHeathcliff. Films included: I Dood It (1943), The Fuller Brush Man (1948), Around the World in Eighty Days (1956), Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machine (1960).First and foremost Red Skelton considered himself a clown. Hispaintings of clowns brought in a fortune after he left television.
