Store Page Ragman #3 Double page spread art by Joe Kubert DC, 1976 I always LOVED Joe Kubert's original Ragman. He was just a super cool, kick-ass character, created in the tradition of Batman.
Original double-page splash artwork for Ragman #3 (DC, 1977) by Joe Kubert (pencils layouts and corrections/ inks) and the Redondo Studios (pencils and inks). Joe himself penciled the Ragman figure on this piece. Written by seasoned scribe Robert Kanigher, this dark and grim tale was entitled "See No Evil," with the Tatterdemalion of Justice watching over and protecting a young blind boy from a syndicate mob boss named Mr. Big and his murderous thugs. This intense and disturbing scene depicts Mr. Big's enforcers hanging a couple for daring to oppose them by not paying their "protection" fee. A young blind boy stumbles upon them and flees in terror. Believing the boy has seen them murder the couple, and thus, can identify them to the police, the henchmen make chase after the boy, who consequently runs into a mysterious stranger as Kanigher brilliantly describes, "Suddenly...a unique figure seemingly composed of swirling dreams materializes out of the shadows...a wraith of darkness! His eyes gleam through the faceless mask with the intensity of hell's own fires!" THE RAGMAN!
Whereas Batman was Gotham City's grand overlord guardian, Ragman patrolled and protected Gotham's dingy and dirty ghettos and slums. And, even though this original series only lasted a mere five issues, Joe Kubert went all out in bringing this streetwise and street-level superhero to life.
Ragman artwork is VERY RARE!
