Halloween Pumpkin Picking Tips
Halloween is quickly approaching. That means costumes, candy and picking pumpkins! You’re looking for the perfect pumpkin to put out on the front porch this Halloween. Before heading out the door to the pumpkin patch, check out these pre-picking tips!
Select Your Space
Are you planning on putting a few pumpkins outside of your front door? Maybe you want one to put out as the centerpiece of your dining room table? Make some measurements before going to the pumpkin patch. Doing so lets you know just how much space you have, and how many pumpkins (of which sizes) you can fit.
Designate Family Members
Who gets to pick the pumpkins? Is it just the kids? Or, do the adults have a say as well? If you have more than one child, you also need to decide if each of the kiddos gets a pick, or you’re choosing one family pumpkin? Discuss who the designated ‘pickers’ are first. If the number of pumpkins you’re picking is less than the number of people in your family, devise (and agree upon) a voting system.
Dress for the Weather
Depending on where you live, October can be warm—or chilly. If you’re making a day of Halloween pumpkin picking fun, don’t force the family into cutting the activity short simply because someone isn’t dressed for the weather. Dressing in layers can help everyone to stay warm in the chilly morning air, while keeping cool as the warm afternoon sun comes out.
Talk About Other Activities
Some pumpkin patches offer hayrides, corn mazes, petting zoos and other fall types of activities. Choose a patch based on what your family wants to do, in terms of adding in extra activities.
