Spring Flower Collage
Mark the start of spring with a floral art activity. Start with a piece of white or light poster board. Use blue water colors to create a sky-hued wash across the paper. If you don’t have watercolors, mix tempera paint with a generous amount of water. Cut out shapes from green construction paper. Your child can glue these onto the poster board to create a stem and leaves. Next, tear pieces of colorful tissue paper apart. Help your child to glue the petal-like tissue onto the top of the stem.
Bake a batch of your favorite vanilla cupcakes. Use a boxed mix or a beloved recipe. After the cakes cool, frost them with spring green icing! Mix a few drops of green food coloring into white icing. Spread the frosting onto the tops of the cooled cakes. Use a forked to create grass-like lines in the frosting. Now you have a spring lawn that’s ready to grow flowers! Add flower-shaped candies or sprinkles to complete the cakes.
Go outside and enjoy the spring sun! Draw a hopscotch board with sidewalk chalk. Instead of numbers, your child can add spring-themed pictures. These could include flowers, other plants, the sun, a spring rain drop or anything else they can think of. Assign each picture a number. Play the game as you normally would by tossing a beanbag or pebble into a square. Your child will need to match the picture to the number and jump corresponding amount of spaces.
