Vernal Equinox Spring Art Activities
March 20th marks the Vernal Equinox. This day is the official start of the spring season. Celebrate the spring with a fun fun-filled family-friendly crafts!
Sunny Spring Day Landscape
Break out the tempera paints and a canvas. Your creative kid can paint a sunny spring landscape from memory, a book or real-life. Discuss the colors of spring and how the natural surroundings look different during this season.
Use tissue paper to make a garden of faux flowers. Plant the flowers in a layer of modeling clay. Press the clay onto a piece of cardboard. Cut circles of colorful tissue paper and pull them together at the center. Twist the center part to make the beginning of a stem. Wind the top of a green pipe cleaner around the tissue paper’s stem. Push the bottom of the pipe cleaner into the clay. Repeat to make more flowers.
Create a picture calendar for every day of the spring season. Stack sheets of construction paper, labeling each one with a month, week or day. Your child can draw a spring themed picture on the back of each calendar page. Punch a hole at the top or on the left side of each paper. Thread a pipe cleaner or piece of yarn through the hole to bind the calendar together.
